WWF Global Conservation Conference

The WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Global Conservation Conference was inaugurated in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
WWF is an international non-governmental organisation founded in 1961 that works on wildlife conservation, habitat protection, climate action and sustainable use of natural resources.
India’s protected areas increased from around 750 to more than 1,000 in the last decade, while tiger reserves increased from 47 to 58 and elephant reserves from 30 to 33.
India’s Ramsar sites increased from 24 to 101; Ramsar sites are wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, 1971.
India’s cheetah reintroduction programme aims to restore the species in protected landscapes after its local extinction in the 20th century.
