India and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have launched a project to strengthen Blue Port infrastructure under a new technical cooperation agreement.
The Blue Ports aim to boost exports, support fishers' livelihoods, and reduce the environmental footprint of port operations.
The Department of Fisheries held the first in a series of capacity-building webinars focused on sustainable and smart fishing ports.
The initiative includes three pilot harbours at Vanakbara (Diu), Jakhau (Gujarat), and Karaikal (Puducherry).
Smart technologies such as AI (artificial intelligence), 5G, IoT (Internet of Things), and automation will be used to improve port efficiency and sustainability.
