‘Golconda Blue’ Diamond

  • The Golconda Blue — the largest known vivid blue diamond, with Indian origins, has been withdrawn from the auction at Geneva, Switzerland.
  • The 23.24 carat pear-shaped diamond is once belonged to Yeshwant Rao Holkar (1908-1962), the Maharaja of Indore.
  • Currently it may have a worth of $35 to $50 million.
  • It originated from the Golconda diamond mines in present-day Telangana.
  • Some of the world’s most famous diamonds, such as the Koh-i-Noor and the Darya-i-Nur, were mined in Golconda.
  • Today, Africa, Australia, and Russia are some of the key players in the diamond industry.
