- The Former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was elected as the President of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
- She becomes the first woman from the Western European group to assume the post and the fifth woman overall to lead the UNGA.
- The UNGA Presidency rotates annually among five regional groups.
