  • Rival factions of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) reunited after a split in the party’s Legislature wing in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
  • The two groups were led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami and S. P. Velumani.
  • The split happened during the confidence vote for the Chief Minister government on May 13, 2026.
  • Rebel MLAs led by Velumani voted in favour of the government, while the Palaniswami group voted against it.
  • Both factions withdrew petitions seeking the disqualification of each other’s MLAs from Speaker J. C. D. Prabhakar.
  • Some MLAs resigned or changed sides during the crisis before both groups finally reached a truce on May 27, 2026.
