- The Bangkok Declaration on Combating Marine Debris in ASEAN Region has been adopted by leaders of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
- According to Ocean Conservancy report 2017 China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand alone dump more than half of the eight million tonnes of plastic waste in oceans every year.
- The Bangkok declaration has not mentioned about bans on single use plastic.
