Bill to protect State’s Heritage Sites

  • The Assam assembly passed bills for creation of three autonomous councils which included Moran, Motok and Kamtapur Autonomous Council.
  • These proposals were made by the government after the height of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest.
  • The bills are being termed as a ‘historic’ step towards implementing the Clause 6 of Assam Accord.

Clause 6

  • The state government is empowered to take necessary steps to ensure constitutional, legislative and administrative safeguards, as may be appropriate, that shall be provided to protect, preserve and promote the culture, social, linguistic identity and heritage of the Assamese people.
