Dual-Sex Crab - Vela carli

Researchers discovered a rare case of gynandromorphy in a freshwater crab species in Silent Valley National Park, Kerala.
The species Vela carli showed both male and female characteristics (gynandromorphy condition).
This is the first recorded case of such condition in the freshwater crab family Gecarcinucidae.
The species is endemic to the Western Ghats and found in tree holes inside the forest ecosystem.
