- The Treaty of Lagos was signed by 15 West African Heads of the State and the Governments in 1975.
- This treaty laid the foundation for ECOWAS with the mission to promote the economic integration across the region.
- ECOWAS is a regional group of 15 West African countries.
- Recently, Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso have officially withdrawn from the group.
- Mauritania withdrew in 2000 but rejoined as an associate member in 2017.
