- It is celebrated to pay tribute to India’s finest engineer Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.
- Visvesvaraya was the Chief Engineer of Krishna Raja Sagara dam in the Mysuru city.
- He has also served as one of the Chief Engineers of the flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad.
- In 1903, he designed the automatic barrier water floodgates at Khadakvasla reservoir in Pune.
- The theme for this day is 'Engineering for A Healthy Planet- Celebrating the UNESCO Engineering Report'.
- In 1968, the Indian government declared Visvesvaraya’s birth anniversary as Engineers’ Day.
- He was regarded as the “Father of Modern Mysore”.
- Visvesvaraya has also authored various books, such as ‘Planned Economy of India’ and ‘Reconstructing India’.
