  • India’s richest 1% increased their wealth by 62% between 2000 and 2023, according to a G20 report.
  • Globally, the top 1% captured 41% of all new wealth created from 2000 to 2024, while the bottom half of humanity received only 1%.
  • Some populous countries like China and India have reduced intercountry inequality due to rising per capita incomes.
  • In over half of all countries, the richest 1% increased their share of wealth, covering 74% of the global population.
  • In India, the top 1% grew their wealth share by 62%, while in China it grew by 54%.
  • Countries with high inequality are seven times more likely to experience democratic decline.
  • Since 2020, global poverty reduction has slowed or even reversed.
  • Currently, 2.3 billion people face moderate or severe food insecurity.
  • Half of the world’s population still lacks essential health services, and 1.3 billion people are impoverished due to out-of-pocket health spending.
