The Maratha Military Landscapes of India were inscribed in July 2025.
These Maratha Military Landscapes include twelve majestic forts, eleven of which are in Maharashtra and one is in Tamil Nadu.
It is now marking India’s 44th UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Maratha Military Landscapes of India spanned from the 17th to 19th centuries CE.
Spread across the states of Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, the selected sites now include Salher, Shivneri, Lohgad, Khanderi, Raigad, Rajgad, Pratapgad, Suvarna durg, Panhala, Vijaydurg, and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, along with Gingee Fort in Tamil Nadu.
In 2024, UNESCO included Assam's 'Moidams – the Mound-Burial System of the Ahom Dynasty' on its prestigious World Heritage list, making it India's 43rd designated site.
Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is the nodal agency for heritage management and proposals.
India is a member of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee (2021–2025).
