India’s Polysilicon PLI Plan

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is preparing a separate Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for polysilicon manufacturing.
India currently has almost no polysilicon production capacity and depends heavily on imports, mainly from China.
The proposed scheme aims to support more than 10 GW of domestic polysilicon manufacturing capacity.
Polysilicon is the starting material for making solar cells and is also important for the semiconductor industry.
The move aims to strengthen India’s upstream solar supply chain, reduce import dependence and increase domestic value addition.
