India and Canada - Strategic Energy Partnership

  • India and Canada signed a $1.9 billion uranium supply agreement for 10,000 tonnes of uranium (2027–2035) to support India’s nuclear power plants.
  • The uranium will be supplied by Canadian company Cameco to support India’s clean energy and nuclear power programme.
  • Both countries have also agreed to restart negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to increase bilateral trade to $50 billion by 2030.
  • Canada agreed to join the International Solar Alliance and Global Biofuel Alliance, strengthening cooperation on renewable energy.
  • The two countries have also decided to improve cooperation in counter-terrorism, security, energy, and technology.
