Indian Army’s Staff College – Women Officer

  • For the first time in the history of the Indian Army, 6 women officers will attend the prestigious Defence Services Staff College (DSSC).
  • It is a move that came after the grant of a Permanent Commission to women officers by the Indian Army in 2021
  • The other courses in the Indian Army - National Defence College, High Command, and Higher Defence Management - are all nominated.
  • The selection to the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) is based on a competitive examination.
  • DSSC Course is the only course conducted by the Indian Army.
  • The Defence Services Staff College was established in 1905 near Nashik.
  • In 1907, it moved to its permanent location at Quetta (now Pakistan).
  • After the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947, it was moved into Wellington Cantonment in The Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu.
  • It has been affiliated to Madras University.
