- Ashok Das (1987 batch-IFS) was named India’s new Ambassador to Brazil.
- He is presently additional secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Earlier he served as India’s Ambassador to Iceland.
- Both India and Brazil are members of the BRICS economic grouping. Both the nations along with Germany and Japan is also in the G4.
- India and Brazil, along with South Africa, are part of the IBSA Dialogue Forum aimed at promoting South-South cooperation and establishing greater understanding between African, Asian and South American countries.
