- INS Viraat that served the Indian Navy for more than 30 years is to be dismantled at Alang, Gujarat.
- The ship was decommissioned three years back.
- It was inducted into the Indian Navy in 1987.
- Previously the ship served the British Navy as HMS Hermes between 1959 and 1984.
- It was a centaur-class aircraft carrier.
- Also, it was the flagship of Indian Navy before INS Vikramaditya was commissioned in 2013.
- Currently, the Indian Navy’s only aircraft carrier is INS Vikramaditya.
