- This day marks the start of the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence from November 25 to December 10.
- On 25 November 1960, the Mirabal sisters were tragically assassinated for their fight against injustice under Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo.
- Their legacy inspired global action, leading the UN in 1993 to define gender-based violence and establishment of this day in 1999.
- For 2025, the global theme is “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls”.
