- International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) has been observed on October 13.
- It aims to promote global culture towards risk awareness and disaster reduction.
- The theme for the year 2019: “Reduce disaster damage to critical infrastructure and disruption of basic services”.
- In 1989, the International Day for Disaster Reduction was started by the United Nations General Assembly.
- The 2019 edition continues as part of the “Sendai Seven” campaign, which was launched in 2016 by United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction which is centered on the seven targets of the Sendai Framework (2015 – 2030).
