  • The day aims to promote peaceful relations, diplomacy, and conflict prevention among nations.
  • It was declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 2 February 2017.
  • The day is based on the UNGA Resolution, which was proposed by Turkmenistan, a permanently neutral country since 12 December 1995.
  • Neutrality means a country does not take sides in wars and remains impartial in conflicts.
