- The International Mountain Day is observed annually on 11 December.
- Theme for the 2018 edition of the International Mountain Day is “#MountainsMatter”.
- It is celebrated by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to spread the awareness about the contribution of mountains in the biodiversity.
- Also, to commemorate the day, there will be a side event on “Mountain adaptation: Vulnerable peaks and people” at UNFCCC COP24 in Katowice, Poland.
