- A new species of hairy snail named Lagocheilus hayaomiyazakii found in the semi-evergreen Tilari forest of Kolhapur district, Maharashtra.
- The species name honours Hayao Miyazaki, a Japanese animator known for nature-themed films.
- It is the first record of the genus Lagocheilus in the northern Western Ghats.
- Now it is extending its known range by 540 kilometers northwards into the Indian Peninsula.
