  • Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan released Mission Rangeen Machhli 2031, a Strategic Action Plan for ornamental fisheries development, in Agatti, Lakshadweep.
  • The plan is implemented by the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, to organise and scientifically develop India’s ornamental fish sector.
  • It covers the complete supply chain, including breeding, hatcheries, production, quarantine, disease management, certification, transport, trade and exports.
  • It aims to establish uniform operating procedures, quality assurance, biosecurity and traceability standards across the ornamental fish industry.
  • The plan will improve the skills of farmers and traders, product quality and access to international markets, making the sector more competitive.
  • Lakshadweep has been identified as a dedicated seaweed cluster, and its marine resources are also considered suitable for ornamental fish farming and other high-value fisheries activities.
