National Level Tiger Census to be released next year

• The Tiger Census, which is being carried out in last four years, will be released next year by March, reports say. Tamil Nadu ranked 4 • According to the 2014 census, Tamil Nadu was ranked fourth in the number of Tigers. There were 229 tigers in Tamil Nadu. • In Tamilnadu, Survey was conducted at Kalakkad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, Anaimalai,Mudumalai National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary, and Sathyamangalam Wildlife Sanctuary. According to the Tamil Nadu Forest Department’s Survey, around 64 Tigers are said to be in Sathyamangalam, and 43 tigers in Mudumalai. Tiger Deaths • In 2014, largest number of tiger deaths in nation is reported in Tamil Nadu, with 15 tigers dead for various reasons. In 2015, the death rate reduced to 6 tiger deaths in Tamilnadu. Further in 2016, only 3 tiger deaths were reported in Tamilnadu.
