The day commemorates the birth anniversary of Sarojini Naidu.
Sarojini Naidu was born on 13 February 1879 in Hyderabad and was a poet, freedom fighter, and political leader.
She became the first Indian woman President of the Indian National Congress (INC) in 1925.
She later became the first woman Governor of the United Provinces (now Uttar Pradesh) in 1947.
She was known as the “Nightingale of India” for her patriotic poetry.
The day aims to promote women’s empowerment, gender equality, education, and leadership in society.
