Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order 2026

The government notified the Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order, 2026, under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, to expand gas use.
India plans to increase the share of natural gas in its energy mix to 15% by 2030 from about 6.2% in 2025.
Natural gas is a fossil fuel mainly made of methane (CH₄) (Methane).
It reduces pollution by lowering Particulate Matter (PM), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), and Sulphur Oxides (SOx).
Consumption is expected to rise from 52 million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) in FY25 to 112 MTPA by FY40.
Government initiatives include City Gas Distribution (CGD), Compressed Bio Gas (CBG), and Unified Tariff (UFT) policy.
