New Crocodile Species at Mexico

- Scientists have discovered two previously unknown species of crocodiles living on the island of Cozumel and the other on the atoll of Banco Chinchorro.
- Each of the newly identified species consists of fewer than 1,000 breeding individuals.
- This brings the number of New World crocodile species from 4 to 6.
- Here previously known species are American, Morelet’s, Cuban, and Orinoco crocodiles.
