Scientists have discovered two previously unknown species of crocodiles living on the island of Cozumel and the other on the atoll of Banco Chinchorro.
Each of the newly identified species consists of fewer than 1,000 breeding individuals.
This brings the number of New World crocodile species from 4 to 6.
Here previously known species are American, Morelet’s, Cuban, and Orinoco crocodiles.
