- The idea of the National Service Scheme (NSS) was proposed by Major General Jagannath Rao Bhonsle.
- On September 24, 1969, the NSS was launched by Dr V.K. R.V. Rao, the father of NSS and then Education Minister of India.
- The motto of the NSS is “Not Me but You”.
