Nuclear-Resistant Floating Artificial Island

China has started building a mobile floating artificial island for deep-sea research, planned to be ready by 2028.
The platform is named the Deep-Sea All-Weather Resident Floating Research Facility and weighs about 78,000 tonnes.
The island is being built using a special metal lattice material that can absorb strong shocks, making the structure resistant to nuclear blasts.
The island is designed under China’s 14th Five-Year Plan and can operate in severe sea conditions, including tropical cyclones.
