- “Project Insight” has been introduced by the Income Tax department to collect information through social media for preventing black money and nab tax evasion.
- Project Insight is an initiative by the Income-Tax Department to mine big data from social media to scrutinize potential tax evaders.
- This plan is designed to verify the income of one person and the details mentioned in the social media. Person exhibiting expensive spending, disproportionate to their income will be scrutinized by the Income Tax Department.
- The central government has already made it mandatory to link the Aadhar number with the PAN number to easily track the income and property details of everyone. It has now expanded its surveillance activity through the 'Project Insight'.
- The tax department has signed a contract with L&T Infotech Limited for its implementation.
