- Sohra in Meghalaya, known as the world's wettest place, received only 1,095.4 mm of rain this June.
- This is one-third of what it got in June last year, which was 3,041.2 mm.
- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) called this one of the steepest yearly drops in rainfall for the region.
- Since 2005, Sohra’s annual rainfall has ranged between 8,000 mm to 9,000 mm, below the normal 11,000 mm.
- In 1974, Sohra set a world record with 24,555 mm of rain in one year.
- The current annual average is now only about a third of that record.
