  • A rare marine amphipod, Stenothoe lowryi, was discovered for the first time in India at Arjyapalli Beach, Ganjam district, Odisha.
  • Previously, this shrimp-like species was known only from the Malaysian shores.
  • It belongs to the family Stenothoidae within the order Amphipoda.
  • It plays a role in the marine food web as a scavenger, feeding on small plants and animal matter.
