- Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) is being celebrated on 31st october, marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel.
- He is credited for the integration of over 550 independent princely states into India from 1947-49.
- He was posthumously conferred with Bharat Ratna, India’s highest Civilian honour, in 1991.
- To mark this occasion ‘Run for Unity’ was organised in New Delhi from the National Stadium.
- Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the Independent India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.
