National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data for 2023 shows an 8% rise in registered cases compared to 2022, and an 11% increase over three years.
Delhi reported 13,366 crimes against women, 7,731 crimes against children, and 1,361 crimes against senior citizens—the highest among 19 metropolitan cities.
Kidnapping and abduction cases in Delhi totalled 5,681, also the highest nationally.
The NCT of Delhi recorded 6,284 missing children in 2023.
The cumulative number of untraced children raised to 12,324, though 6,972 were recovered during the year.
The city ranked 10th in cybercrime cases and fourth in economic offences with 4,580 cases, while foreigner-related crimes numbered 130, and human trafficking cases were 117.
Minors were involved in 2,278 cases in Delhi, followed by Chennai with 523 and Bengaluru with 427 cases.
Rajasthan recorded the highest number of rape and economic offence cases in the country.
A total of 5,194 rape cases were reported in Rajasthan in 2023.
Rajasthan also registered 27,765 cases of economic offences, followed by Telangana (26,881) and Uttar Pradesh (23,428).
Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra followed Rajasthan in total crimes against women, with 66,381 and 47,101 cases, respectively.
