- The Union Cabinet approved the Tribal ministry's proposal for the inclusion of Narikuravars under ST category.
- The Kuruvikkaran community of Tamil Nadu was also included in the category.
- This will be done through the introduction of a Bill in Parliament to amend the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950.
- The Narikuravars is one of the most deprived and vulnerable communities living in the hills of Tamil Nadu.
- The Union Cabinet cleared the proposal to notify several tribal communities under the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh as well.
- The Hatti community in the Trans-Giri area of Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur also added in the list of notified Scheduled Tribes.
