- Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated a refurbished 'Bharathi Illam' in Varanasi.
- In the house, Bharathiyar lived in his age of 15 to 19 years.
- He also inaugurated a statue of Bharathiyar in the 'Bharathi Illam'.
- He had announced that the centenary of Bharathi’s death anniversary would be observed as Mahakavi Day (11th September).
- The memorial apart from the statue has a small library.
