- Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker disqualified 18 dissident ruling party’s MLAs, owing allegiance to sidelined party leader.
- Since the Speaker disqualified them under the Members of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly (Disqualification on Ground of Defection) Rules, 1986, the 18 ceased to be legislators.
- MLAs have “incurred disqualification” under Article 191 (2) of the Tenth Schedule of constitution.
- Article 191(2) - A person shall be disqualified for being a member of the Legislative Assembly or Legislative Council of a State if he is so disqualified under the Tenth Schedule.
