- With the maximum number of institutes among the TOP 50 ranks of almost all categories, Tamil Nadu emerged as the leading state contributing in Indian Higher Education.
- Tamil Nadu remains King in Engineering College list with 1/5th of top 100 engineering colleges in India.
- According to the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings, 2020, Among the top 100 engineering colleges in the country, 18 are from Tamil Nadu.
- The top education institution of the country is IIT Madras along with being the best engineering college in the country for the fifth time in a row.
- National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli is the only other engineering college in the top 10 from Tamil Nadu, ranked 9.
- Among the colleges rank, Tamil Nadu alone has one-third of the top 100 humanities, arts and science colleges in India.
- In the 2019 ranking, there were 35 colleges from the state while this year 32 colleges are in the list out of a total of 100 colleges.
- For the first time the Madras Medical College has figured among the top medical colleges and is ranked at 12.
