Tamil Nadu Chief Minister launched the Thaimaaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), Madurai, on 28 September 2026.
The scheme gives a one-gram, 22-carat, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)-hallmarked gold ring to newborn babies delivered in Tamil Nadu government hospitals.
It covers eligible babies born on or after 22 June 2026 to mothers who are residents of Tamil Nadu.
The scheme has an annual allocation of ₹755.83 crore and is designed to cover about 4.4 lakh government-institution births annually.
Eligibility includes Tamil Nadu residents delivering in government institutions, with the mother registered under the Pregnancy and Infant Cohort Monitoring Evaluation (PICME) system with a Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) ID.
