 	- The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers is observed on 29 May of every year.
- The day offers a chance to pay tribute to the uniformed and civilian personnel’s invaluable contribution to the peacekeeping works of UN.

 
 	- It honours more than 3,800 peacekeepers who have lost their lives serving under the UN flag since 1948.
- The first UN peacekeeping mission was established on 29 May 1948.
- It was mandated to monitor the Armistice Agreement between Israel and its Arab neighbours.
- The day is observed since 2003.

 	- The theme for 2019 is “Protecting Civilians, Protecting Peace”.
- Protection of civilians has increasingly been at the heart of UN peacekeeping.
