- The report was released by the World Health Organization.
- The 2021 report is based on information received from malaria-endemic countries in all WHO regions.
- If speedy action is not taken, the world is in danger of seeing an immediate resurgence of the disease, mostly in Africa.
- There was an increase of 12% in malaria deaths in 2020 over 2019.
- Most of the increase came from countries in the WHO African Region, which accounted for about 95% of cases.
- India accounted for 83% of cases in the WHO South-East Asia Region.
