  • UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) has issued the first Golden Residence Permit in Abu Dhabi to investor Yousuf Ali, the Abu Dhabi-based Keralite billionaire tycoon.
    • This scheme is expected to encourage expatriates to make long-term investment goals and own a property. 30% of UAE’s total population comprises of Indian migrants.
  • The Madras High Court has ruled that film music composer R. Ilaiyaraaja was entitled to “special moral rights” over 4,500 songs composed by him for more than 1,000 movies under Section 57 of the Copyright Act, 1957.
    • This Section protects the right of a composer to claim a right over his compositions even after assigning them wholly or partially to others.
  • On the eve of World environment Day, 2019 (June 05), Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar launched #selfiewithsapling campaign and asked people to plant a sapling and post a selfie with it.
  • The Nandan Nilekani committee on digital payments has recommended elimination of transaction charges, round the clock RTGS and NEFT facility, duty-free import of point-of-sales machines to increase digital payments in India.
    • It has also recommended for globalising Indian payment systems such as RuPay and BHIM UPI to ease remittances into India and to help Indian travellers make payments abroad.
  • Food grains production for the agricultural year 2018-19 has been estimated at over 283 million tonnes.

  • The Navy expanded its Mission Based Deployments (MBD) in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and deployed P-8I long-range maritime surveillance aircraft for anti-piracy sorties from Salalah in Oman to patrol the Gulf of Aden.
    • Due to strategic importance of IOR, Indian Navy regularly conducts Presence and Surveillance Missions off critical choke points or sea lanes in the IOR.
  • Researchers from ICAR-National Rice Research Institute (NRRI), Odisha have mapped out the diverse genes in rice that help in disease resistance against “rice blast” disease.
    • A fungus Magnaporthe oryzae, causes rice blast which is one of the major diseases of the rice crop.
