  • Two Muslim Governors and all Nine Muslim Ministers in Sri Lanka, including four of Cabinet rank have resigned en masse in Sri Lanka.
    • They have taken a collective stand against the community being “demonised” since the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
  • West Indies opener Chris Gayle overtook former South Africa captain AB de Villiers as the highest six-hitter in the history of the ICC World Cup with 39-sixes.
  • Three Main accused in the Kathua gangrape and murder case of an 8-year-old girl child in Jammu and Kashmir were sentenced to life imprisonment under the Ranbir Penal Code. Three policemen were sentenced to 5 years imprisonment.
    • Introduced in 1932, only Ranbir Penal Code is applicable in Kashmir. It is named after Ranbir Singh, ruler of Dogra dynasty.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has allowed banks to offer cheque book facility and other services to the no-frills account holders without demanding them to maintain any minimum balance.
    • The Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) Account is designed to offer certain minimum facilities free of charge to the such account holders.
  • BJP Member of Parliament Virendra Kumar will be India's next Pro-tem Speaker and he was elected from Tikamgarh constituency in Madhya Pradesh.
