- Two Muslim Governors and all Nine Muslim Ministers in Sri Lanka, including four of Cabinet rank have resigned en masse in Sri Lanka.

- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has allowed banks to offer cheque book facility and other services to the no-frills account holders without demanding them to maintain any minimum balance.
- The Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) Account is designed to offer certain minimum facilities free of charge to the such account holders.
