- The UN Environment Programme released the Global Methane Status Report 2025 during COP30.
- The report states that global methane emissions were about 352 million tonnes in 2020.
- Emissions are projected to rise to 369 million tonnes by 2030 under current policies.
- Agriculture contributes about 42 % of global methane emissions.
- Current national pledges can cut emissions by 8 per cent below 2020 levels by 2030.
- Implementing all available reduction options can lower emissions by about 32 per cent by 2030, in line with the Global Methane Pledge goal.
