- Article 44 of the Constitution of India places the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) under the Directive Principles of State Policy (DPSP).
- If enacted, West Bengal would become the fourth State, after Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Assam, to implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
