- A total of 103 punch-marked gold coins were unearthed at a Shiva temple in Kovilur, Tiruvannamalai district.
- Archaeologists estimate the coins to be around 600 years old, dating back to the Vijayanagara era.
- The coins bear the emblem of a pig, a symbol used by Vijayanagara rulers.
- Vijayanagara Empire spanned from 1336 to the end of the 17th century.
