• Garbiñe Muguruza of Spain won Women’s Singles title in Wimbledon defeating Venus Williams of America. This is Muguruza’s second Grand Slam.
• Venus Williams missed the bid to set record as Wimbledon's oldest champion in the Open era.
• Muguruza became the second Spaniard woman to win Wimbledon, first being her present day coach Conchita Martinez. Conchita won Wimbledon in 1994 over her opponent Martina Navratilova.
