- Due to the continued efforts of India, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on 19 December 2019 designating 21st May as ‘International Tea Day’.
- It was adopted in 2019 by the United Nations food and Agriculture Organization.
- India is the second largest tea producing country after China.
- India accounts for 23% of the total tea production of the world.
- Also India is the world’s largest producer and consumer of black tea in the world.
