- Justice Surya Kant took oath as the 53rd Chief Justice of India (CJI).
- It was administered by the President of India.
- He was the youngest Advocate General of Haryana on July 7, 2000.
- In a first, chief justices and judges from Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nepal and Sri Lanka were also present at the swearing-in ceremony.
- Kant was appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh in October, 2018.
