- Employees' State Insurance Corporation is a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
- It was created under the Employees State Insurance Act, 1948, and the scheme was launched on February 24, 1952.
- The ESI Scheme provides medical care and cash benefits during sickness, maternity, disability, and death due to employment injury.
- The scheme was inaugurated in Kanpur and Delhi by Jawaharlal Nehru.
